Sambonet Paderno acquires Ercuis-Raynaud

French silverware Ercuis and Limoges porcelain Raynaud to join the Italian Group Sambonet Paderno Industrie.

PRESS RELEASE

With immediate effect the Italian group, Sambonet Paderno Industrie S.p.A., has taken over Ercuis, a French silverware company established back in 1867 and majority shareholder of Raynaud, a porcelain manufacturing company founded in Limoges in 1849. This agreement outlines the acquisition of a 100% stake in Ercuis, which holds a 55.25% shareholding in Raynaud. The remaining capital is held by the members of the Raynaud family.

This consolidation continues the strategy launched in 1979 by the Italian group, which saw the acquisition of Paderno followed by Sambonet in 1997, Rosenthal in 2009 and Arzberg in 2013.
Through the acquisition the Italian group, which closed 2014 with sales of over €160 million, will now operate through the brands Sambonet, Rosenthal, Rosenthal meets Versace, Paderno, Arthur Krupp, Arzberg, Thomas and Hutschenreuther, will consolidate its position as the global leader in the tableware and kitchenware sector, principally increasing its product offering in the ultra-exclusive luxury and top-end segments.

The production sites operated by Ercuis in the department of Oise, which specialise in manufacturing cutlery and silverware pieces, and in Limoges, which produce porcelain, will also become part of the new group.

"Our objective is to be a global benchmark in the tableware and kitchenware industry, in both the private consumer sector and the hotel sector, thanks to our ability to respond appropriately to a wide range of market segments", declared CEO of the group Pierluigi Coppo.

Ercuis & Raynaud
Backed by years of experience and expertise, which has been passed down from generation to generation since 1867, the Ercuis range includes solid silver and silver plated collections steeped in the heritage of French decorative arts but also more timeless and completely contemporary creations.
Represented since the 1930s in grand hotels and legendary places, such as on board the ocean liners Ile-de-France and Normandie and the Orient Express, Ercuis can still be found to this day – and as elegant as ever – on the tables of top chefs at the Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris, at the Plaza Athénée or in the restaurants of Joël Robuchon.
Ercuis has been a member of the Comité Colbert, which comprises the 75 most prestigious French luxury brands, since 1978.

There are brands of which the signature alone is a testament of quality. This is also true of Raynaud, one of the longest standing manufacturing companies in Limoges, which has a history dating back over 150 years and in which the founding family still has a hold over the capital and the management.
The "R" in the shape of a laurel branch adorns numerous tea services belonging to the White House and to high courts in Europe and the Orient. The company has also collaborated with all manner of designers including Dali, Cocteau, Roger Tallon, Raymond Loewy, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Hilton McConnico, Alberto Pinto and Christian Tortu, as well as with Michelin starred chefs such as Anne-Sophie Pic, Thierry Marx and Thomas Keller. Today, the Raynaud brand continues to bear all the hallmarks of modernity, elegance and creativity.

The Group
With sales of €13 million in 2014, Ercuis and Raynaud will give the Italian group a strong positioning in the French market – both in the retail sector mainly through the flagship store at rue Boissy d'Anglas in Paris' Madeleine district, but also in terms of key influencers, designers and interior decorators as well as in the luxury hotel segment.
The acquisition will enable the group to increase its visibility and critical mass, a key strategic variable in determining commercial relationships with major stores.
With this latest acquisition of these two historic brands Ercuis and Raynaud, which are both icons of quintessential French elegance, Sambonet Paderno Industrie is endowing itself with unique expertise in creation and tradition "Made in France”.
Sambonet, founded in Vercelli in 1856 and now based in Orfengo (Novara), is today a national and international market leader in the production of design objects for the table and kitchen. Rosenthal is one of the most renowned brands for elegant tableware, a producer of porcelain, glassware and decorative accessories, the very first trailblazer for table design. Founded in 1879 by Philipp Rosenthal, Rosenthal GmbH also comprises the brands Thomas and Hutschenreuther.
